Where are We, and Our Next Contract

Not a day passes when there isn’t disturbing news about the state of the newspaper industry.

The latest round of buyouts announced last week are part of that trend. We do not yet have a list of who is eligible but when we get it in the next day or so will work diligently to make the terms as beneficial as possible.

This comes on the heels of several cases in which our members are quietly being pushed out of their jobs, and the threat in the not-too-distant future of layoffs or furloughs as the Post attempts to cut expenses. The Guild leadership, Darlene Meyer and Robert Pierre, have been in off-the-record discussions with management to work through the framework of a potential contract agreement.

We will update everyone on those talks consistent with the terms of the Guild-Post confidentiality agreement, and the path we need to take forward when we gather at a membership meeting on April 14th, between 12 and 2pm at the Guild office.

Please come and bring a friend. We have difficult choices to make and we want to hear from everyone.
