Is This Our Future?

The Post plans to create a “Community Journalist” position.

The starting salary for the job would be $34,000 a year. They could write for the extras, the web and the Daily. It is a new position, they say.

We say this sounds a lot like the positions we already have. They’re called reporters.

In this economy, someone will surely want these jobs. But, be clear, they will do the work we do now for a lower wage.

We will meet soon to plan our response. Please be ready, on short notice, to gather to discuss our next move as we prepare for contract negotiations. Talk to your colleagues and Guild Reps, whether you are a dues-paying member or not. This impacts all of our jobs.
