Guild Members Ratify 6-Month Contract Extension
WASHINGTON – Washington Post Guild members overwhelmingly ratified a six-month contract extension by a 79 to 1 vote. The contract expires May 7, 2009.
The vote comes at a turbulent time in the industry. Both the Post and the Guild concluded that the extension represented the wisest path at this uncertain juncture.
“It is in every Guild-covered employees’s interest that the Post improve its business in this difficult times for the newspapers,” the Guild Bargaining Committee said in a statement.
“The big project of print and Internet operations integration is crucially important to the future of The Post, and the Guild wants to see it done right and done smoothly.
“If the integration is done the wrong way, it will hurt the business, which is bad for all of us.”
